Pastors training essential nowadays

07 Aug 2019

The International Training Network (TNET) has been commended for empowering pastors deemed necessary  for  confronting modern day challenges in the church.

The commendation came from Minister of Employment, Labour Productivity and Skills Development Mr Tshenolo Mabeo during the  TNET launch in Gaborone recently.

“Word based training and modernised pastoral leadership are needed to effectively handle the challenges of modern day Botswana. It is therefore important to empower those who are at the helm of the church leadership,” he said.

The minister described the church as the bedrock of society.

The church, Mr Mabeo said, was an important stakeholder in Botswana’s transformational agenda especially since Batswana were increasingly becoming a part of the church..

TNET, a global, evangelical and interdenominational training organisation, provides leadership training and skills development to pastors and church leaders.

The message the institution seeks to drive is that anointing alone is not enough.

“A lot of pastors are ordained and not trained, so there is need to fill in those skills gap so that they can carry out the great commission,” said TNET country director Bishop Adolph Mukwemba.

Courses offered include leadership development, accountability communication and conflict management, resource management as well as strategic planning.

Bishop Mukwemba revealed that two intakes had graduated since 2017. The institution, he said, was accredited by the University of Minnesota and offers bachelor’s, masters and post doctorate degrees.ENDS
