Orphans come together to share experiences

06 Aug 2019

One Another Charitable Society (OACS), a non-profit making organisation, will host an orphans tea session, to help orphans share experiences on their well-being.

The event billed for Mabutsane in the Southern District recently would be the first of its kind.

In an interview, OACS founder, Ms Gorata Phakedi, said upon realising the hardships faced by orphans, she saw it fit to create an opportunity to share and motivate each other on how to move forward.

She said such a networking platform would go a long way in instilling positive energy on those affected as well as giving them the support base they needed.

“Losing a parent is a life-changing moment that remains with you forever. As an orphan, for so long I could not move on after the death of my mother. I was depressed and lost hope until a day I had to accept that my pillar of strength is gone.  I accepted my fate and now I am able to face challenges,” Ms Phakedi explained.

She noted that the initiative, which they intended to spread to other parts of the country, sought to revive the hurting, depressed, demotivated and broken souls who lost parents.

Ms Phakedi also noted that initially they were targeting orphans around Mabutsane, but due to interest from other areas they were expecting participants from Sekoma, Jwaneng, Sese, Khakhea and Kokong.

They invited Captain Apelo Letsomo, who is a motivational speaker, to officiate to inspire those who had already lost hope.

“Since our objective is to touch lives and revive hope, we believe her life story is relevant to our course by giving hope to those who have given up in life,” she said.

Tribal leaders, including OACS patron Kgosi Kgakgamatso Moletsane, are expected to grace the event and reassure attendants of community support.  ENDS
