Government took a decision to invoke provisions of Section 15 (b) of the Bogosi Act in  2011 to de-recognise Kgosi Kgafela II as kgosi of Bakgatla tribe. Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso told Parliament that the decision was taken in the interest of the public.

She said  Kgosi Kgafela II was thereafter neither allowed to exercise nor perform any power or official duties relating to tribal administration structures in the Kgatleng District.

“I cannot state with certainty when government will lift the de-recognition of Kgosi Kgafela II as consultations are ongoing which involve numerous government ministries and departments,” said Ms Tshireletso.

The MP for Mochudi East, Mr Moagi Molebatsi had wanted to know when government would lift the de-recognition of Kgosi Kgafela II. ENDS
