Government identifies Nkange Brigade for rationalisation

06 Aug 2019

Nkange Brigade is among brigades that have been identified for rationalisation as a rapid skills development centre.

Minister of Employment, Labour Productivity and Skills Development, Mr Tshenolo Mabeo explained that the process of rationalising the brigade was ongoing, adding that it entailed consultation with critical stakeholders like employees and communities.

He said the process would be finalised by end of September 2019. Minister Mabeo said the initiative was approved by cabinet through a presidential directive in 2017 to rationalise the activities of Madirelo Testing and Training Centres (MTTC), Construction Industry Trust Fund (CITF) and brigades. He said its outcome was the introduction of the rapid skills development centres for the purpose of undertaking modularised competency-based vocational training.

Mr Mabeo said the ministry would address a kgotla meeting in Nkange on the matter in due course as part of the consultative process with stakeholders.

Nkange legislator, Mr Edwin Batshu had asked the minister to update Parliament on the transformation of Nkange Brigade.

Mr Batshu had also wanted to know whether the ministry would consider addressing a kgotla meeting in Nkange on the matter in view of the fact that the brigade was a community initiative. ENDS
