Masisi confers awards upon police officers

On the eve of the 135th Botswana Police Day commemoration, the President, Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi on August 2 bestowed awards upon members of the police who distinguished themselves in service.

Accompanied by the Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Shaw Kgathi and the Commissioner of Police, Mr Keabetswe Makgophe, President Masisi conferred honours upon numerous officers.

The Botswana Police Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (LSGCM) was given to officers who served the Botswana Police Service (BPS) for a period of 18 years and were considered worthy through good conduct and character.

Awardees were also expected not to have been convicted to any morally offensive offence nor have more than six disciplinary convictions against in the workplace over their time in the employ of the BPS.

The Botswana Police Medal for Meritorious Service (BPM) awarded to members of the BPS who served 12 years or more and set a good example by their conduct and diligence, was bestowed upon senior assistant commissioners; Cornelius Lesola, Christopher Mbulawa, Wilhelmina Petje, Precious Tlhabiwa and Committee Tlalanyane as well as assistant commissioner David Bale.

Another award, the Botswana Police Distinguished Service Order (DSO) was awarded on the criteria of devotion to duty for those who have attained 30 years of service while the Jubilee Service Medal (JSM) was handed over to those who had served with distinction for 25 years.

Among those who were accorded the DSO were senior assistant commissioners; Dr Baboloki Helen Tumediso and Arthur Johnson; Assistant Commissioners Patrick Monageng, Mudongo Chitutu, Samuel Keitireng and Dipontsho Pharithi.

Awardees in the JSM included senior assistant commissioners Maseng Mathiba, Boaletswe Gobotswang and Odikilwe Majama as well as Senior Superintendents Keeletsang Pati and Tshireletso Kgosiemang. ENDS
