04 Aug 2019

The 21st century skills require Botswana to be ready for the fourth industrial revolution, says Assistant Minister of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology, Mr Moiseraele Goya.

Mr Goya said this at Travel Lodge in Gaborone during the graduation ceremony of 120 students of Mega Size College.

He said parents and other stakeholders’ attendance at the graduation was an indication that education and training were crucial pillars needed by the country.

The assistant minister said the graduation theme: Providing 21st century skills for employability, sustainability and development, supported the ideals of Vision 2036 as well as the ministry’s mandate of shifting to a knowledge based economy from a resource based economy.

Mr Goya further explained that education was fundamental in building and ensuring a democratic society as it provided citizens with tools that enabled them to participate in society building.

He noted that government was committed to ensuring that quality education was made available to all Batswana to improve their lives.

“Obtaining quality education is the foundation to improve people’s lives and helping them to improve quality services. Moreover, Mega Size College should reflect and show the nation that they have trained students to the level of fit for purpose,” he said.

Education and training providers were urged to adhere to the rules of accreditation as provided for by Botswana Qualification Accreditation’s Authority, as government was spending a lot of money on tertiary education hence the need for return on investment. Ends
