Pupils get life coaching skills

04 Aug 2019

Moshupa Senior Secondary School, famous for unruly behaviour of pupils exacerbated by school gangs, is singing a different tune.

Efforts by different stakeholders, including non-governmental organisations, have channeled the notorious actions by pupils into a positive attitude and outlook in life.

This was revealed during a workshop organised for Form five pupils by Alpha Outreach Botswana, a non-governmental organisation working in partnership with the Scripture Union.

Guidance teacher, Ms Kamogelo Kono said ever since the school engaged various stakeholders in the form of motivational speakers, pastors and dikgosi, the school’s glory has been restored.

“The introduction of the boot camp changed the situation,” she stated.

The boot camp, she said, has shaped pupils conduct.  She said they had a few cases of alcohol and drug abuse. “It is a pity that when a few commit a crime, the whole body is painted with the same brush,”  she opined.

However, team building facilitator, Ms Ashley Thaba said integrity workshop organised for Form five pupils sought to prepare them for out of school life.

She said it was imperative that pupils were taught concepts such as integrity and corruption to prepare them to be better people.

Ms Thaba said she taught the principles in a fun and practical manner.

Furthermore, she stated that it was easy to teach the principles at an early age because “it is easier to build up a child than it is to repair an adult.”

School head, Mr Terence Seitiso appreciated the workshop, saying it would instill dignity in pupils and restore the pride of the school.

He also said the workshop would prepare Form five leavers to be absorbed back into the community with ease.

Kesaobaka Mmualefhe, a Form five pupil, also appreciated the workshop.

He said they hear about issues such as corruption everyday, and that if they were taught about them while they were young they would become better citizens. Ends
