Deputy chairperson of Tutume Sub-district council, Mr Anthony Chibane has implored communities residing along national roads to maintain cleanliness of such roads.
In an interview with BOPA during a clean-up campaign along A3 road organised by the Sub-council and deputy district commissioner’s office, Mr Chibane said it was imperative for
Batswana to understand that national roads were the country’s important assets.
He said government through such roads collected revenue used in the development of the country.
He emphasised that such roads should be kept clean as they were a reflection of how Batswana live.
Mr Chibane observed that over the recent years, waste from households was thrown at bus stops which ended up being scattered all over.
He pointed out that such dirt was risky and a health hazard as animals ended up consuming it.
He stated that the council had made dumping sites in many places and were accessible to the communities, hence the need for people to utilise them.
In addition, he said plastics were not easily degradable and if not properly disposed they could become a major problem.
He added that it was time better ways of disposing plastics were established
Furthermore, he said communities residing along national roads should also join hands with the council and district commissioners’ offices to clean the roads.
He commended public officers that participated in the clean-up campaign to always take a leading role as it would also encourage the communities. ENDS
