Investment promotions attract investment

31 Jul 2019

The Assistant Minister for Investment, Trade and Industry, Mr Karabo Gare says his ministry continues to attract investment and encourage business development across Botswana through its investment promotion initiatives.

Mr Gare told Parliament on July 30 that investment, trade and industry ministry has facilitated 63 companies across the different sectors of the economy for the past three years.

These companies, he said had invested P56million and created 925 jobs altogether.

“We are aware of only one existing business that has shown interest to increase its investment but has been limited by unavailability of land, which is Northern Textiles Mills (Pty) Ltd.

The company is in discussions with a land owner in Francistown who is interested in leasing the said land as opposed to outright sale”, he said.

He was responding to a question from Francistown South MP, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi who asked the minister  to state the number of investors that had been assisted by his ministry to set up business in Francistown in the last three years and to also state  businesses in Francistown that have shown interest to increase their investments but were limited by unavailability of land. Ends
