Exercise is beneficial to one’s health as it promotes longevity.
This was said by chairperson of Botswana Retired Nurses Society (BORNUS), Ms Elizabeth Setambule during a wellness day held in partnership with Ohio University students in Francistown on July 30.
Ms Setambule said the main purpose of the event was to continue giving services to the community, focusing more on the elderly.
“Elders tend not to take regular exercises hence becoming at much risk of suffering from health problems,” she said, adding that it was important to exercise once in a while.
Ms Setambule said they found it necessary to engage specialists in different fields such as Audiology and Physiotherapy to offer their services to the community members. One teacher from Ohio University, Ms Jenus Halmen said their visit was meant to administer different tests to the elderly such as hearing, communication capability and mind and thinking capacity.
Ms Halmen urged the elders to open up to the students so that they could receive relevant assistance. On other issues, Donga clinic nursing officer, Ms Dorothy Koko updated Donga residents on the clinic’s operations.
She said since 2015, accreditation had been ongoing at Donga clinic to improve services adding that in May 2019 accreditation was approved.
“Services offered in Donga Clinic are now recognised world-wide,” she said.
Ms Koko further applauded Donga community members for their support throughout the years. However, she said lately they had been experiencing an influx of patients from all over Francistown.
Another challenge, she said, was the delay at the pharmacy due to different systems used by the clinic departments.
Despite all these, Ms Koko said that they were committed to helping the community.Giving a vote of thanks, Ms Irene Mlilo advised the community to watch their diet, as the food they eat might cause health problems.
She further cautioned them to regularly exercise in order to keep their bodies healthy at all times.
Ms Mlilo thanked representatives of Ohio University for their support. Ends
