WUC generates P5.5 billion in three years
30 Jul 2019
Assistant Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi says the total revenue generated in all Water Utilities (WUC) management centers including towns for the last three years is P5.5 billion while a total amount realised for the same years was P3.2 billion.
He told Parliament on July 29, that WUC was demarcated by management centers hence the requisite information could only be provided per management center not by districts.
This, he said was mainly because the management center boundaries overlap across districts for example, Tlokweng which was under the South East District falls within the Gaborone management Centre while Ramotswa and its peripheral villages fall under Lobatse management Center.
He said given that the question did not specify the period over which the amount of revenue should be stated, he could only give a synopsis of the total revenue WUC had generated and realised as well as statistics of management Centers and six towns being Gaborone, Lobatse, Jwaneng, Selebi Phikwe, Francistown and Sowa Town during the financial years 2017 to 2019.
He said revenue generated for six towns was P2.6 billion while total realised was more than P1.7 billion.
He also indicated that the summarised figures indicated that revenue realised was less than revenue generated.
He was responding to specially elected MP Mr Mephato Reatile who had asked the minister to state how much revenue had been generated annually from consumption of portable water and to provide the breakdown by districts and towns as well as what had been realised by the corporation. Ends
