Assistant Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, Mr Dikgang Makgalemele says his ministry has employed five officers living with albinism and other disabilities.
Mr Makgalemele said the number included a seconded employee from the Department of Information Technology.
He also told Parliament that there were no people living with disabilities or albinism in the Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC) and Botswana National Youth Council (BNYC).
Mr Makgelemele further stated that although the SDG targets and indicators were measured at national level and not institutional level, the number of people employed by the ministry would contribute to the achievement of the national target on the Sustainable Development Goal number 8 on decent work and economic growth by 2030.
He further noted that government’s recruitment policy did not discriminate any person on the basis of disability or albinism .
The assistant minister said the SDG targets would be met despite not being measured at national level noting that reviews would be made during the midterm NDP11 review and the development of NDP12 to ensure compliance.
Specially elected MP, Mr Mephato Reatile had asked the minister to state the number of people living with albinism and other disabilities employed in his ministry including BNSC and BNYC. Ends
