Marang JSS maintenance on cards
30 Jul 2019
Minister of Basic Education Mr Bagalatia Arone says a comprehensive maintenance of Marang Junior Secondary school is planned for the financial year 2019/2020 which will include the classrooms, laboratories, staff houses, access road and kitchen.
Mr Arone has told Parliament that his ministry was aware of the state of despair at Marang JSS but had no plan to close the school temporarily or otherwise as it would negatively impact on teaching and learning.
Further, he said his ministry was aware that teachers and students were still expected to deliver under such conditions and hence his ministry would maintain the school to improve the environment.
He said the school was constructed in 1985/86 and partly maintained in 2013/14 when the staff houses were attended to.
Gaborone North MP, Mr Haskins Nkaigwa had asked the minister if he was aware that Marang JSS in the Gaborone North Constituency had reached a status where classrooms were no longer conducive for learning.
He also wanted the minister to state whether there were any plans to close the school temporarily to allow for major maintenance and when would maintenance start as well as what it would entail.
Mr Nkaigwa further asked how teachers and students were expected to deliver in such an environment and when the school was built and last maintained. Ends
