Schools feeding programme doing well

28 Jul 2019

The newly introduced breakfast in primary schools is going on well, Molepolole/Lentsweletau senior assistant council secretary, Mr Gofaone Kgabanyane, has said.

Responding to councillors’ comments during Molepolole Administrative Authority (MAA) Sub-council meeting recently, Mr Kgabanyane expressed appreciation of the programme, which he said would not be reviewed soon because it was doing well.

“We did not experience teething problems as far as the programme is concerned, therefore it will be unrealistic to consider review of the programme when there are no challenges encountered,” he said.

He said bakeries had capacity to deliver on time and within the set schedules.

“Why do we have to revise the programme that is currently serving the purpose for which it was intended?” he asked.

Mr Kgabanyane also stated that it would not be possible to make changes since the procurement processes had already been dealt with.

Nominated Councillor Wabona Thebeitsile had wanted provision of the primary school breakfast to not only consider bakeries as the only beneficiaries, but to allow individuals to benefit.

The same sentiments were echoed by Lekgwapheng councillor, Mr Slumber Mokgosi, who also called for opportunities for communities.

Meanwhile, councillors also expressed interest to visit the newly established Minergy Coal Mine in Medie for appreciation and to understand how it affected communities around the area.

Mr Solomon Ramalejane requested a visit to the mine to get information over complaints raised, especially over the alleged dust from the mine.

Medie/Kweneng councillor, Mr Mothusi Akanyang, however, dismissed the complaints about dust from the mine, stating that he regularly got updates to the contrary.

“I am happy that the establishment of Medie Minergy Coal Mine has brought good than the bad as it created more employment opportunities for communities in and around, with Medie vbeing awarded the highest quota,” he added.

Mankgwenyane counncillor, Mr Molemisi Motsewabathata called for establishment of a second sub-land board to service Molepolole arguing that, the village was challenged by the influx of people, due to its proximity to the capital city, thus making service delivery more cumbersome. Ends
