Assistance rendered by the Chinese community towards the less privileged is appreciated as it helps the government in the effort to achieve the ideals of a dignified life for all, Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Machana Shamukuni has said.

Speaking during  a donation of 2000 blankets valued between P400 000 and P500 000 by the Charity Association of Chinese in Botswana (CACB) to the Office of the President in Gaborone recently, Mr Shamukuni said government appreciated such generosity, which is consistent with national values.

“It is heartening to note that this generous gesture is a collective effort by the Chinese entrepreneurs who have businesses in this country. 

I extend profound gratitude to the executive chairman of the association, Mr Miles Nan and his team for this noble gesture, which they have demonstrated over the years by making such generous donations to various communities in the country,” Mr Shamukuni said.

The minister also thanked other individuals, groups and companies who continue to support the initiative to assist the less privileged to keep warm during the winter period.

“I would like to indicate that every effort no matter how small, will make a difference in our society.  Therefore, if we all join hands in this regard our long term National Vision 2036, which espouses to achieve ‘Prosperity for All,’ will be realised,” Mr Shamukuni said.

Adding his worth, Mr Nan said they were continuing with the assistance they had rendered to the government over the years, and pledged that his organisation would continue extending a helping hand to Batswana.

“We appreciate the good hospitality in this country, and we express it by assisting the government’s initiative of helping the needy and the elderly. 

 CACB members agreed to contribute to organising the 2000 blankets to be distributed evenly to those in need countrywide,” Mr Nan pronounced.

He further said that every year they contributed blankets to assist people during winter, and revealed that in August they would be in Kasane for similar donations. Ends
