Sub-council chair appreciates councillors

24 Jul 2019

Mogoditshane/Thamaga Sub-council chairman Mr Ofentse Mafoko has thanked councillors for an incredible five-year term, characterised by successes, despite limited resources at their disposal.

In his last address of the sub-council on July 22, Mr Mafoko said ‘the sub-district has managed to achieve a lot in the past five years’.

Among the achievements, he mentioned destitute housing, Gabane infrastructure, construction of Mmopane primary school, Metsimotlhabe Block 4 land servicing as well as electrification of Gakgatla.

He however, noted that some projects had not yet begun and they would commence soon, citing the PIII-Sengaparile road as one of them.

He further revealed that the sub-council had managed to complete 3.3 kilometres of street lighting in Mogoditshane and Mmankgodi as well as 4.4 kilometres solar street lighting in Thamaga, adding that traffic signals and 14 Scissor Masts had also been installed in various wards of the sub district.

On roads, Mr Mafoko said the Gabane Infrastructure project, which commenced in August 2017, was ongoing and it covered 21.18 kilometres of tarred roads and associated drainage works as well as 4.5 kilometres of street lighting.

Under the road levy funded projects he cited that about 9.9 kilometres of internal roads in Mogoditshane and Mmopane were complete, while road markings were still ongoing.

The construction of storm water drainage and associated works in Mmankgodi as well as bush clearing and road formation of Mmopane-Ledumadumane/Block 8 were also at a satisfactory level, he said.

He further stated that in the last five years, the council was allocated 200 destitute houses, out of which it completed 198.

For the year under review the sub council was allocated 17 houses and contracts had been awarded for all 17 houses and contractors are on site, he added.

In addition, councillor Mafoko said the council had made significant strides in licensing of day care centres in an endeavour to promote education and a safe environment for children.

To date, the sub district has licensed 74 out 113 day care centres as compared to 20 licensed day care centres in 2015, he revealed.

Meanwhile, Mr Mafoko mentioned that though they had achieved a lot in the last five years, the council had not been able to construct the Rural Administration Centre through the Public Private Partnership as anticipated since one interested party had taken the matter to court.

“The establishment of Mogoditshane Township and Thamaga Sub-council district are some of the initiatives that have not been able to take off,” the sub-council chairman lamented.

He pleaded with officers to speed up consultations on the matter and others lagging behind in order to bring them to a close.

He also wished all politicians luck in the coming general elections and requested them to exercise restraint during their campaigns. ENDS
