Kweneng region BOPSSA champions

Kweneng region emerged Botswana Primary Schools Sports Association (BOPSSA) champions at the just ended games, which were held recently. 

Kweneng region won cricket, tennis, volleyball (boys) and both boys and girls’ categories in chess; winning gold medals and four trophies.

The region was subsequently crowned overall champions followed by North West and Central regions respectively.

In an interview at the official closing, Kweneng regional organiser, Oteng Lekgaba said their winning spree in four consecutive years, was due to the team spirit and commitment from coaches and students.

He said they were committed to sports adding that they had a  camp prior to games, which gave their students a competitive edge.

He also appreciated the support from Kweneng District Council for providing transport and food during camps.

Lekgaba noted that the region would therefore represent the country at the Confederation of School Sport Associations of Southern Africa (COSSASA) games in some sporting codes such as tennis and volleyball.

BOPSSA vice president-technical Selebatso Keabetswe said the BOPSSA finals were successful adding that all regional teams and coaches had shown  dedication.

Keabetswe observed that some regional teams emerged winners in some codes for the first time, citing Gantsi region, who were the football boys’ champions.

He noted that Kweneng region’s continuous excellent results show that the region was doing things right.

As a result, he challnged other regions to benchmark from it. 

Further, he said the technical team had selected under 13 teams that would represent Botswana at the COSSASA Games to be held in Zambia next month in volleyball, netball, football and tennis.

Botswana, he said would prepare well to ensure they defend their title as COSSASA champions. Ends
