Letlhakeng sub-council procurement behind schedule
24 Jul 2019
Letlhakeng Sub-council has been urged to prepare pre-tender activities ahead of time to expedite procurement processes and service delivery.
Speaking during the commencement of the last session of Letlhakeng Sub-council recently, the Chairperson Mr Thomas Batlhophi said despite the council receiving funding by end of April, most activities were still at tendering stage.
He said ‘procurement by other departments is on-going and we anticipate increment of our expenditure as time goes on with the bulk of the revenue expected from staff rentals, matimela auctions and sanitation fees.’
Mr Batlhophi further said even though they were behind schedule on procurement, they would not be deterred by the situation and they would be ready with tender documents before the beginning of the next financial year.
He reminded the councillors that the approved budget for the financial year was P110.5 million which comprised of revenue support grant of P107 million and more than P3.4 million as own resource revenue.
The sub-council chairperson added that with the commencement of the 2019/2020 financial year, they had only managed to use 23 percent which was P24.5 million of the total budget of P110.5 million.
In other updates, Mr Batlhophi said the social and community development continued to provide safety nets to beneficiaries under different categories.
He said currently the department provided safety nets to 960 destitute persons, 667 needy students, 265 orphans and 28 children in need of care.
Mr Batlhophi further said the 2017/18 programme had come to a conclusion with all 52 houses complete while the 2018/19 programme was still underway with 18 out of 51 houses complete.
The council chairperson said contractors and artisans were on site completing the remaining 33 houses while tenders for the 2019/2020 houses had been closed and were currently at evaluation stage. ENDS
