Local govt to review customary court warrants

Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Kgotla Autlwetse has told Parliament that his ministry has plans to review the customary court warrants under Part 1 of the Third Schedule for Criminal Jurisdiction under Stock Theft Act following the amendment of the Stock Theft Act.
Responding to a parliamentary question recently, Mr Autlwetse said the ministry would engage Attorney Generals’ Chambers to carry out a holistic amendment to court warrants before the end of 2019/20 financial year.
MP for Nkange,Mr Edwin Batshu had asked the minister if there were any plans to review the Customary Court warrants following the last amendment of the Stock Theft Act which among others, increased penalties for offences under the Act to ensure that stock theft cases continue to be tried before Customary Courts as per wishes of Batswana.
