The P4 million budget for the installation of flood lights in Gaborone North has been disbursed to Gaborone City Council (GCC).
Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Kgotla Autlwetse said the funds were disbursed in by March 20, 2018 and was still with GCC.
Mr Autlwetse said the installation of floodlights at Gaborone North during the financial year 2017/2018 was delayed by among others, a protracted consultations on allocation of flood lights across various wards within the constituency and procurement processes.
However, he explained that a tender was floating and it was expected to be closed on August 23, 2019, adding that in view of the explanation given, there was no act of sabotage by local authorities.
Gaborone North MP, Mr Haskins Nkaigwa had asked the minister to explain what happened to the funds allocated to Gaborone North constituency for the installation of flood lights in various wards in the financial year 2017/2018.
He also wanted clarity on what had delayed the implementation of the project and if it was not an act of sabotage by authorities. Ends
