Ministry registers 18 political parties

Minister of Nationality, Immigration and Gender Affairs, Mr Tshenolo Mabeo says there are 18 registered political parties in Botswana.
Mr Mabeo told Parliament that the parties were; The People’s Liberty Movement, registered on September 1983, Botswana Labour Party registered in September 1989, Botswana National Front, registered in August 1991, Botswana Democratic Party registered in May 1982, Botswana Workers Front registered in September 1993, United Socialist Party registered in May 1994, Social Democratic Party registered in July 1994, MELS Movement of Botswana registered in October 1997, Botswana Congress Party registered in June 1998, New Democratic Front registered in March 2003, Botswana Alliance
Movement registered in June 2003, Botswana Tlhoko Tiro Organisation registered on April 2008, Botswana Movement for Democracy Change registered in August 2012, Botswana People’s Party registered in October 2013, Alliance for Progressive registered in October 2017, Real Alternative Party registered in November 2017, and lastly Botswana Patriotic Front registered in June 2019.
Mr Mabeo further said the ministry had not de-registered any political party to date.
Nkange MP, Edwin Batshu had asked the minister to state the number of registered political parties in Botswana, their registered names and dates of registration. Mr Batshu had also wanted to know the number of political parties which have since been de-registered. Ends
