Chobe registers few cases over holidays

Kachikau police are investigating an accident in which a 23-year-old Kachikau man sustained serious injuries when a Toyota Land Cruiser he was travelling in overturned along Kachikau/Parakarungu Road on recently.

In an interview with BOPA, Superintendent Situme Budani said it was alleged that the driver lost control of the vehicle and it overturned, injuring the 23-year-old passenger in the process. 

He said the driver escaped with no injuries and the police were investigating what could have led to the driver losing control of the vehicle.

Meanwhile, Superintendent Kgotlaetsile Oodira said in Kasane, six cases were recorded during the holidays as compared to 13 the same period last year. 

Supt Oodira said the cases were two burglary and theft, one rape, malicious damage to property, theft common and common nuisance.

He said a 45-year-old woman of Plateau was allegedly raped by a 26-year-old man on Saturday night. Supt Oodira said the incident took place at the victim’s home and the suspect, who is in police custody, will be arraigned before court this week.

He said a 39-year-old Zimbabwean man was apprehended in connection with the burglary and theft cases, which took place in Chinatown and all the stolen household items were recovered. 

He said the owners of the property had identified them. Ends
