16 Jul 2019

The Vice President, Mr Slumber Tsogwane has implored the private sector to support Presidential Housing Appeal.

Mr Tsogwane made the call during the donation of a two roomed-house, a kitchen, combined toilet and bathroom to Ms Goitseone Gaoboutlwelwe by Choppies Chain Store in Khumaga recently.

He also handed over a similar house to Ms Kebatlogetse Supang of Xhumo.

Government budget, he said was constrained to cover projects countrywide and appealed to the private sector to support the initiative.

He appreciated the gesture by Choppies Chain Store of helping those in need.

He noted that Choppies was a home grown company which government was proud of, as it had also created employment opportunities for Batswana.

He said Choppies had earned itself a good name in the market as it competed with other chain stores from neighbouring countries.

He noted that if Batswana and local businesses could continue working in partnership with government, poverty eradication would be achieved.

Mr Tsogwane said through such partnership, the livelihoods of underprivileged members of society would be uplifted.

The project, he said was in response to vision 2016 pillar of a Compassionate, Just and Caring Nation.

The Vice President said the Presidential Housing Appeal programme had an account that was opened following attempts to claim it by some people.

He said it was a national programme derived from the national vision.

Mr Tsogwane said the programme was driven and led by a serving president.

Choppies regional manager, Mr Resego Mokwena said by the overwhelming support they received from Batswana motivated to plough back to the nation.

Mr Mokwena said they were proud to be contributing in uplifting the livelihoods of Batswana, saying they would continue doing so.

Ms Gaoboutlwelwe appreciated the donation and urged Choppies Chain Store to continue assisting other members of society.
