Tsonyane awaits solar lights installation
16 Jul 2019
Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Nonofo Molefhi says Tsonyane in Kanye South and many other villages still await installation of solar lights.
Mr Molefhi told Parliament recently that Tsonyane was one of the villages that were identified for installation of 20 solar lights through the Installation of Solar Lights in 57 constituencies project.
He said the project was implemented through the Botswana Innovation Technology, Research Institute (BITRI) He said the project experienced delays mainly at product development because the developer had to re-develop and re-test numerous times, and that delayed the rollout to the constituencies.
However, Mr Molefhi said the contractor would commence mounting of lights from August to December 2019 covering 32 constituencies.
He said since Tsonyane was not the only village that had not yet received the lights, therefore it would not be practical for him as a minister to visit Tsonyane to explain, instead he requested the area MP to brief his constituents accordingly.
Kanye South MP, Mr Abram Kesupile had asked the minister if he was aware that residents of Tsonyane were still awaiting for the long promised 20 solar power street lights.
Mr Kesupile had also wanted to know the time bound schedule for their installation, asking when would the minister visit Tsonyane to update residents on project the status. Ends
