The President, Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has urged Good Hope residents to utilise improved Integrated Support Programme for Arable Agriculture Development (ISPAAD).
Adressing a kgotla meeting in the village recently, President Masisi said cluster fencing and other infrastructural developments could increase crop harvest and grow an agricultural hub in the area like the Mosisedi commercial farmers.
President Masisi said residents needed to play their part to revive farming and bring wealth to Barolong area.
He further encourged Barolong to open different types of businesses because government had removed bottlenecks that only permitted those with business plots to operate.
He said they must utilise their farms and open guest houses, further urging them to preserve their culture.
President Masisi acknowledged the challenges of unemployment in the area, noting that all available posts were filled.
He said climate change had also become a challenge in the country, as perennial rivers had dried up.
He said even though there were challenges, Batswana were a blessed nation because they were given plots and some services for free.
In his welcoming remarks, the acting paramount chief of Barolong, Kgosi Botiki Motshegare praised President Masisi for his spirit of consultation and love.
He applauded government for the installation of three boreholes at Good Hope senior secondary school and admission of special education students at the school.
However, Kgosi Motshegare complained about shortage of land in the area and requested that they be allocated farms.
He also complained about the stock theft between the Botswana and South Africa border.
He also indicated that there was a need for a police station at Pitsane. Ends
