Botswana Billiards Confederation (BBC) has begun its quest to launch pool across the country.

Therefore, the confederation is in search of affiliates to kick start pool tournaments and events, which include training and coaching workshops.

A press release from BBC states that BBC, a mother body for cue sport activities began as Botswana Pool Table Association (BOPTA) in 1998 and in 2016 it changed to Botswana Billiards Confederation. 

The confederation seeks to ensure pool is recognised as a serious sporting event and to remove the idea that pool is only a bar sport.

According to the release, BBC has been run by a self-sponsored executive team, therefore it has not found it easy to host as many events as it wished it could. 

However the release says BBC is in search of affiliates to kick start pool tournaments and events, which include training and coaching workshops. 

“BBC is reaching out to pool players across the country to help have the sport of pool grow, therefore those who love the sport of pool and would like to take part in BBC activities should apply for affiliation at BBC and once approved, should then proceed to form teams of a minimum of 6 members.” 

The release further states that a constitution should be produced for the teams and register them at the Register of Societies. 

It states that an affiliation fee of P1 000 should be paid to BBC and the confederation will give the group an affiliation certificate. 

According to the release, the consumption of alcohol is not allowed during their events since they are now focused on playing professional pool and supporting the #saynotodoping campaign. 

Meanwhile, the release states that last year BBC became a member of All Africa Pool Association (AAPA) and World Pool Association (WPA) which is a big leap for the sport. 

“With AAPA and WPA on board BBC will be able to expose our athletes internationally.”

BBC is currently an affiliate of Botswana National Sports Commission, All Africa Pool Association and World Pool Association. ENDS
