Mzwinila launches football tournament

Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Kefentse Mzwinila has launched a football and netball tournament that will commence on July 13, courtesy of the Good Samaritan charitable organisation.
The games, which will be played throughout the President’s Day holidays, are aimed at providing entertainment for the community as well as the youth, thereby keeping social ills at bay during the holidays.
Addressing the teams at Lemepe Lodge recently, Mzwinila noted that two years ago while still Assistant Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, he had the opportunity to launch the same tournament in Molepolole, and that the magnitude of the tournament at the time surpassed his expectations.
He said there were about 30 participating teams, adding that he was happy that the tournament had continued to attract even more teams.
He applauded Kabo Morwaeng, who is the founder of the Good Samaritan, for his continued support and contribution in community development.
He said his efforts could not go unnoticed because government could not do it alone. He added that individuals and organisations who partnered with government to support initiatives deserved recognition and needed to be encouraged to continue impacting the lives of others.
Mzwinila further commended Morwaeng for sponsoring the President’s holiday and Independence games to the tune of over P250 000.
For his part, Morwaeng said it was the fifth year his organisation has sponsored the tournament, adding that over the years, it has attracted more and more teams, both football and netball, from Molepolole South constituency.
He said last year 60 teams participated and that this year about 70 teams had already registered. He added that they expected the number to increase to over 100 teams before the tournament starts.
He said there were two women’s football teams and four Under 15 teams that would be participating. About P100 000 has been set aside for the tournament while P150 000 will be set aside for the Independence holidays tournament. Participating teams will each receive a kit and a ball as well as trophies for victorious teams. ENDS
