School heads undergo module training
09 Jul 2019
School heads need to be capacitated to achieve a result based education, chief education officer - North West regional education office, Mr Mosebo Molapisi has said.
Mr Molapisi was welcoming school heads at a School Leadership Module II training in Maun on July 8.
He said empowering school heads would help attain educational transformation, adding that the leadership module training would help them in their role as mentors.
He also stated that capacitating school heads was in tune with the country’s transformation drive from a resource based to a knowledge based economy.
In an interview, one of the module developers and also chief education officer Good Hope, Ms Ruth Matlhape said the training was the second phase of the school head module trials.
The modules, she said, were meant to empower school heads to be at par with transformation in the education system, brought about by the implementation of the curriculum pathways through the Education and Training Sector Strategic Plan (ETTSP).
Ms Matlhape said curriculum pathways identified pupils’ talents from junior to senior secondary schools, which would enable placement at tertiary schools or vocational training.
She, therefore, said school heads were capacitated under 10 modules, which were designed specifically for them and tested in phases. She said three modules were tested in the first phase in Francistown, while the Maun training focused on three phases of Information
Communication Technology (ICT) in teaching and learning in the 21st century, inclusive friendly environment and Teacher Performance Appraisal. ENDS
