Small entrepreneurs will be given first priority at the sixth annual Dablas July (Kwambala Cup and Family Fun Day), scheduled for July 13 to 16.

The event is also meant to empower, equip and develop upcoming businesses and talent as well as to recognise brands available in Francistown.

Speaking during a media briefing recently, the founder of Kwambala Cup and councillor for Itekeng ward, Mr Lesego Kwambala said the event was for the people.

He said the aim of the event was  to promote small businesses, adding that small businesses would be the only ones allowed to buy stalls.

He also noted that there would be a health screening, saying it was a way of bringing services closer to people.

He said the event would include a soccer challenge, five a side tournament, volleyball, chess and pool.

“There will be new activities like dance and eating competitions,” he added.

He said the event has produced players like Fortunate Thulari, who plies his trade in the premier league.

He also revealed that the committee running events of the day was in the process of registering a third division league team.

He explained that the winning football team would be sponsored by Francistown College of Programming to study a three months ICT skills at the institution.

Furthermore, he said the winning team would pocket P3 000, position two would receive P1 500 while the rest of the teams would get P500 each plus branded kits.

For his part, chairperson of Botswana National Youth Council, Mr Gobe Taziba said the event was no longer a sporting initiative, but rather a social community development event.

He said Dablas July was meant to reduce social ills amongst the youth.ENDS
