Plans underway to develop recreational park

Mahalapye Sub-council authorities have revealed that plans are underway to develop the recreational park plot.
Although allocated in 2014, the plot still lies undeveloped and is covered by a thick bush.
Located next to Watershed Mall, the undeveloped land is an eyesore and poses a threat to residents of Mahalapye.
Responding to a questionnaire, Mahalapye Sub-council principal public relations officer, Mr Goratileone Kgwadu acknowledged that the plot was the property of the sub-council and that it was earmarked for recreational puposes.
Although there were no visible developments at the plot, Mr Kgwadu revealed that plans were at an advanced stage to develop the land.
He said the development of the plot has been outsourced to a private developer, adding that talks were at an advanced stage.
He said the proposed development at the park would be revealed as soon as an agreement had been reached.
He said the Department of Physical Planning and other relevant stakeholders were still in negotiations with the developers. “Details pertaining to the proposed developments will be revealed when the agreement has been concluded,” he said.
Mr Kgwadu said developing the plot would not only benefit the council, but the whole community.
He added that it would cater for recreational activities and other community engagements such as weddings, parties, ceremonial activities, exhibitions and any other public gathering deemed appropriate for the venue.
He also noted that developing the facility would provide temporary employment during the development face as well as to give the village a facelift.
Commenting on the security risk posed by the plot, he said since they were on the brink of finalising the developer, he was hopeful that the plot would be cleared of bushes.
He added that there was no need to engage Ipelegeng workers as the developer would take care of bush clearing. ENDS
