The Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Ms Bogolo Kenewendo has informed Parliament that the National Lottery Licensing process is still underway. Answering a parliamentary question on July 8, Ms Kenewendo said the amount requested for the National Lottery licensing process which was provided for, through the normal government subvention payments was P10.9 million (P10 921 076.35.) So far, she said that the disbursements made amounted to P810 276.35. With regards to how much was requested, allocated and used for casino, Minister Kenewendo said there was no request for an allocation for the Casino licensing process because the process was done by authority officials. “The variance between the National Lottery allocation and lack of specific allocation for the casino licences is that the board made a decision to outsource the evaluation of the National Lottery License applications as it is a new license type and there is a need to rely on external expertise,” said Ms Kenewendo. Selebi Phikwe West, MP Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse had asked the minister to state the amount requested and allocated for the National Lottery licensing process and also to state variances between the Lottery versus Casino license amounts.
