Young people have been urged to turn their challenges into opportunities.
Speaking during a youth workshop in Modipane recently, Overseas Development Enterprises executive chairperson, Mr Manhar Mooney, said the youth had responsibility to generate wealth.
He said when there was no generation of wealth, one would pay taxes and without tax, the country would not be developed.
Mr Mooney said there was fear among the youth regarding being entrepreneurs, hence the high rate of unemployment and dependence on government.
He said envying other people’s business ideas was also one of the things that put talent to waste, adding that learning and applyin.
Mr Mooney said the startup capital was in one’s head not in someone else.
He said Batswana should leave the culture of dependence and urged the youth to always.
He said working on a project until was done was one way of getting things done other than having many incomplete projects.
He said being surrounded by busy people kept one busy, hence the need to lose lazy friends.
When welcoming the guests, Kgosi Fanuel Mokalake said Modipane was a fast developing village, but youth were not forth coming with business ideas.
He encouraged the youth to take the workshop as a gateway to entrepreneurship and also to inspire other youth to create employment.
Kgosi Mokalake said the people of Modipane loved volunteering and had done a lot for the community.
Youth development practitioner, Ms Lillian Moremi, said Batswana should go back to the spirit of togetherness that existed years back.
She said Batswana had a culture of society and should use that to open up their businesses and also to empower others.
Ms Moremi said education was not having a certificate, but rather speaking and applying the skills taught and learnt.
She urged the youth to group themselves and exchange skills as a way of empowering each other and an opener to their business.
Councillor for Modipane Mr Obitseng Malesele thanked Mr Mooney and Modipane Development Trust for the workshop.
He said the trust aimed at creating developments, hence creating employment for the community of Modipane.
Mr Malesele urged the youth to join the trust so they help the elders with the projects and use their technology skills to perform better. ENDS
