CDK donates computers printers software

08 Jul 2019

CDK, a building and civil contractor, recently donated 10 computers, printers and antivirus software worth P152 000 to schools and kgotla in villages of Tsetsebjwe, Moletemane and Mathathane.

CDK was engaged by the Ministry of Land Management and Water Sanitation, through Water Utilities Corporation (WUC), to construct a water pipeline, water storage facility and pump station for the three villages in question.

Upon completion of the project, which was reportedly delivered within specifications and on time, CDK through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) sought ways to leave a lasting legacy in the three villages.

It was through the CSR policy and in collaboration with relevant stakeholders that they found a need for computers, printers, photocopying machines, faxing machines and scanners.

Instead of purchasing a single machine for a single duty, CDK’s  IT unit recommended a four-in-one machine that would deliver printing, scanning, faxing and photocopying duties all in one.

Speaking at the handover event, CDK managing director, Mr Jackson Kgatlhegang, said the company believed in integrating workers into the villages in which they operated unlike with some companies that had camps that separated workers from mingling with the community members.

That way, he said, would ensure that their company contributed to the village economy by way of renting houses and buying their needs from village shops, among other things.

Also, he said they ensured that they transferred skills for future benefit to their employees.

Those who applied themselves extraordinarily in executing duties, the managing director said, were accorded long term employment.

In other issues, Mr Kgatlhegang commended the ministry and WUC for unbundling mega projects for the benefit of citizen owned companies.

He posited that such a move was crucial to growing citizen-owned companies into mega contractors.

Though he observed that in many cases many citizens owned companies were termed failures and characterised as incompetent, CDK delivered a massive project to silence the critics.

At the same event, Kgosi Ezekiel Joel-Masilo said it was a gratifying gesture by CDK to donate to the communities.

He thanked the company for going an extra mile in identifying the communities’ needs and subsequently addressing them.

The community leader said prior to the donation, tribal administration workers and schools staff travelled to and fro Bobonong for the services, which would otherwise be provided by the donated equipment.

He also thanked CDK for the jobs provided to his subjects and the good conduct in which they went about doing their business.

For his part, chief education officer in the region, Mr Moses Tshetlhana said the equipment would contribute to education in the region, because about 3 475 people, being teachers, pupils and staff would benefit from its use.

Thus, he challenged beneficiaries to use the equipment towards improving academic performance.

Furthermore, he indicated that the water project would also help academically since pupils and teachers would be availed water and therefore allow for smooth running of learning. ENDS
