Police station maintenance ongoing

07 Jul 2019

More than P2.5 million has been awarded for the maintenance of Gweta police station.

Responding to parliamentary question  on behalf of the minister of Defence, Justice and Security, the minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Nonofo Molefhi said that an amount of P1.8million had been paid for the work completed.

Mr Molefhi said the delay in completing the maintenance work was a result of poor contract management by the contractor.

He said that the contract was awarded to Madsin & Son (PTY) LTD who at some point abandoned the site only to be later traced by the Tutume DBES and resumed maintenance work  June 21, 2019. The project is expected to be completed on July 31 2019.

Minister Molefhi further informed Parliament that the contractor was charged Liquidated and Ascertainment Damages (LAD’s), which were deducted from payments due to the contractor from December 2017. Nata/Gweta legislator, Mr Polson Majaga had asked the minister to explain the delay in completion of Gweta police station maintenance and to state the date of completion. ENDS
