Minister aware of requests for extensions

07 Jul 2019

The Ministry of Health and Wellness is aware of repeated requests for extension of some health facilities in the Kanye South region.

This was confirmed by the ministry’s  Assistant Minister,Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe  in Parliament. Mr Lelatisitswe said the requested extensions, included maternity wing especially at Sebego, Lotlhakane East, Seherelela, Lefhoko, Sesung and Tsonyane Health facilities.

Mr Lelatisitswe said that the ministry  currently did not have any plans to upgrade any of those facilities to include maternity wings due to budgetary constraints.

He however stated that Tsonyane Health Post was successfully upgraded to a clinic without maternity in April 2019 through partnership with DEBSWANA.

In addition, Mr Lelatisitswe pointed out that his ministry had explored other initiatives such as block booking and increasing Anti-Retroviral Therapy clinic days in order to address overcrowding in some facilities. He also stated that other facilities would be considered during the Mid-Term Review which was ongoing.

The Member of Parliament for Kanye South, MP Abram Kesupile had asked the minister if he was aware of repeated requests for extension of clinics at Sebego, Lotlhakane East, Seherelela, Lefhoko, Sesung and Tsonyane. MP Kesupile pointed out that there should be extension to accommodate new units such as maternity wing and so as to provide sufficient work space for health workers. He also said that would help eliminate overcrowding of patients and to give health seekers decent service. He therefore wanted the minister to state when each clinic would be attended to. ENDS
