Every career uses some sort of Mathematics.
More importantly, doing Mathematics helps the mind to reason and organise complicated situations or problems into clear, simple and logical steps, said Ms Mmametsi Setlhare, head of audit services at Debswana.
Speaking at the 47th National Maths and Science Fair in Gaborone recently, Ms Setlhare csaid some people thought Maths and Science fairs were events where pupils explained simple and most likely overused or recycled fair projects, but presenting a Science project allowed them to improve communication and social skills.
She said the Science fair increased pupils’ interest of being scientists and engineers.
Ms Setlhare said many had managed to attract scholarships and future employment after being discovered through fairs.
She said such events also empowered pupils with knowledge and efficient learning of new things.
For his part, head of faculty of science - University of Botswana, Professor Julies Atlhopheng said science built competencies and capacity.
He congratulated pupils for representing their schools well and urged them to innovate around their surroundings. ENDS
