IHSSIDM partnership invaluable

02 Jul 2019

Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe says the partnership between Institute of Development Management (IDM) and Institute of Health Sciences- Serowe (IHSS) will yield various benefits to customers and the nation at large.

The two institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in October 2018 through the Ministry of Health and Wellness with the launch on June 28 meant to kick-start the partnership.

Held under the theme; Partnership and Networks - a key to socio-economic development, the partnership seeks to inter alia see collaborative effort between the two institutions in areas of training, research and consultancy.

The two institutions, according to the MoU, are set to, among other things, share the assigned spaces in buildings of IHSS to conduct training, research and consultancy work.

Speaking at the launch of the MoU, Mr Lelatisitswe said that the institutions sought partnerships to add value through joint and concerted efforts.

“Although organisations may have different approaches and structures, they can work together towards a common goal, purpose and achieve collective results,” Mr Lelatisitswe highlighted.

He said by partnering to train and up-skill individuals in a quest to grow their potential, IHSS and IDM were in essence offering convenience to their customers.

This is in light of the fact that IDM has for a long time been based in Gaborone before opening branch recently in Francistown.

Mr Lelatisitswe, who is also a Member of Parliament for Boteti East, further said that the partnership between the two tertiary institutions was a great effort that sought to support government and the private sector in their endeavour to improve productivity and accelerate socio-economic development.

“The significance of this partnership is in realising Botswana’s Vision 2036’s first two pillars of sustainable economic development as well as human and social development,” Mr Lelatisitswe said and added further that the partnership offered an opportunity for cross-pollination of ideas and experiences between the two institutions.

In his parting shot, the assistant minister quoted one Henry Ford who once said, “Coming together is a beginning, staying together is a progress, and working together is success” to emphasise the importance attached to partnerships. Ends
