Game ranges to increase survelliance
02 Jul 2019
The primary form of land use in Wildlife Management Areas is wildlife management and utilisation, says Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso.
Ms Tshireletso said the role of the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism, in the allocation of land, was to play an advisory role to land management authorities that allocated it.
“It is against this background that the ministry intends to recommend allocation of game ranches along the border to increase surveillance and also create a buffer zone between Botswana and South Africa,” she said.Kgosi David Toto II of Kgalagadi South region had wanted Ntlo ya Dikgosi to be updated on progress made to give farmers, including young farmers, part of the Wildlife Management Areas to address shortage of grazing land, stock theft and movement of animals to South Africa.
