The President, Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi, has underscored the  need for Batswana to uphold the spirit of consultation that has shaped the country’s democracy.

The President, who was speaking in an interview on Sir Seretse Khama Day that he commemorated with Mabutsane residents yesterday, noted that Botswana’s founding president, Sir Seretse Khama, believed in consultation, unity and peace.

He said it was through such values that he did not only build the nation, but government as well.

Consequently, Dr Masisi said he found it appropriate to share a message on unity and to reassure Batswana of his government’s commitment to consultation.

He called on Batswana to unite and be patriotic irrespective of their racial or sexual orientation.

Dr Masisi said unity would go a long way in helping advance the interests of Botswana as a whole.

He said he was aware of a pending issue concerning some ranches in Mabutsane, but promised that there would be through consultation to resolve such.

President Masisi said government would find time so that the issue could be deliberated on with hope for mutual understanding among all the parties.

The President also donated blankets to residents. For his part, Mabutsane senior chief representative, Kgosi Kgakgamatso Moletsane, commended Dr Masisi for his visit to the village as well as for the blankets which he donated to residents.

He also acknowledged the President’s assurance that the land issue would be resolved through consultation.

He further said the matter needed to be resolved within a reasonable time given its sensitivity. ENDS
