Although football is a male dominated sport in Botswana, more females have now started participating in the sport, as professionals and for leisure. 

The ladies have created a platform similiar to the social football clubs termed ‘soccer babes clubs’. 

The soccer babes clubs are bringing in the aesthetic touch to football and will regularly organise tournaments.

It is against this background that a Sterling Creations, a youth events company, will organise  soccer babes five-aside tournament, which will be held alongside entertainment provided by DJs.

Speaking in an interview, one of the organisers, Mompati Leano said the tournament would be the first of its kind aimed at both non-corporate and corporate ladies clubs. 

The tournament, which is for ladies, will feature 16 teams and will help engage women in sports, specifically soccer.

One of the highlights of the trournament will be the PS4 19 FIFA tournament played on big screen.

In addition, Leano said through the tournament, they want to prove that women were not weak or incapable as perceived by many and it would also help demonstrate not only physical strength, but leadership and strategic thinking.

Soccer Babes tournament boasts of a 100 per cent local line-up of Botswana’s most celebrated DJ’s such as Casper The Dj, Colastraw, Hapex Guru, Chrispin the Drummer, Benny T and many others. The event will be held at the Gaborone Club and tickets are available for P80 and P100 at the gate. Ends
