01 Jul 2019
Member of Parliament for Tonota, Mr Thapelo Olopeng, says kgotla meetings are fora where issues are discussed and resolved.
Addressing residents of Foley Village recently, Mr Olopeng said by attending kgotla meetings, residents would be able to put forward vtheir needs for departments to take them up for resolution.
On other issues, he said since Zone 7 had been removed from the animal movement restriction list, farmers were free to move their animals to any destination of their choice, but cautioned farmers against moving sick animals.
He said the recent introduction of breakfast at schools resulted in more learners attending classes on a regular basis.
Mr Olopeng also said plans were afoot to rollout antiretrovirals (ARV) programme to ensure consistency in taking medication.
He said there were plans to extend the Foley clinic and its waiting room.
He said Foley had been included in the P1 million for poverty eradication projects, adding that toilets construction was at evaluation stage.
Mr Olopeng said there were plans to fence the village football pitch to assist with talent identification.
He called on the Tonota Sub-district Council to assist with grading the pitch and village teams to assist in maintaining the grounds.
He said he donated solar lights, footballs, clothing, pads and liners to learners and promised to donate to Standard 6 pupils in the future.
For his part, Village Development Committee chairperson, Mr Thatayaone Mathabe said two LA2 houses as well as toilets were complete, while construction of nine toilets at the primary school had not yet started.
Mr Mathabe said there was no administration block at their primary school, noting that the school kitchen was small and there was no storeroom, no guard room at the village clinic and they needed a tribal secretary.
He requested for the employment of a security guard for kgotla offices and installation of burglar bars to deter criminals.
When welcoming the residents and MP, Kgosi Olebile Khumo said they had long requested for a plot for a cultural village and had no response from the sub-land board, adding that they also requested for a plot for the Roman Catholic Church and extension of the kgotla plot.
Kgosi Khumo said there were more than 1 854 people on the waiting list for Foley.
Land board secretary, Mr Godfrey Chimbise said the cultural village and the satellite police station were reviewed and approved in March this year.
He denied that applications got lost at the board, but said they were many, hence the long retrieval time. ENDS
