No challenge of water shortage in BrayHereford

01 Jul 2019

There are no challenges of water shortage in Bray/Hereford, Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi has said.

Responding to a question at Ntlo Ya Dikgosi, asked by Kgosi David Toto II of Kgalagadi South region, Mr Moipisi said the borehole supplying Bray/Hereford met water demand for the village.

“Out of 30 days in a month, the borehole is operated for 20 days.

The other days the borehole is not pumped, while the village is supplied from storage,” he said.

The demand of the village, the minister said was estimated at 56 cubic metres per day, whereas average monthly borehole water supplied to the village was 84 cubic metres per day.

For that reason, he said the borehole yielded more than the current demanded water supply.

With regards to the proposal to increase the number of standpipes, he said Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) would construct a pipeline to Phatsima ward and install a prepaid standpipe to assist dwellers as the area was a new development area with no water reticulation network yet.

This construction, Mr Moipisi said was planned to commence this month for completion by end of September.

“The rest of the village has adequate number of stand pipes.

Private connections are also adequately used in the village as water supply service points,” he added.

Kgosi Toto II had asked the minister to state when he would address the challenge of water shortage, as well as increase the number of stand pipes at Hereford. ends
