Masisi lauds dikgosi for stellar leadership

27 Jun 2019

President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has commended dikgosi for the critical role they continue to play towards ensuring Botswana’s continued peace and stability.

At a dinner he hosted for members of Ntlo ya Dikgosi at State House on June 26, Dr Masisi said dikgosi had always been among the central pillars that held the nation of Botswana together.

For that, he said, government and Batswana would forever remain indebted to dikgosi.

The President paid special homage to Ntlo ya Dikgosi chairperson, Kgosi Puso Gaborone and his deputy Kgosi Malope II for their sound leadership of the house.

He said that trait had enabled bogosi to remain focused and able to deliver on its mandate of playing an advisory role to government.

On the impending general elections, Dr Masisi appealed to dikgosi and Batswana at large to place the interests of the nation before those of individuals in exercising their right to vote.

He said it was critical for every Motswana to understand that they carried the responsibility, at a personal level, to safeguard the future of the nation when exercising the rights bestowed upon them by the constitution.

Giving a vote of thanks, Kgosi Puso concurred that it was important for Batswana to put the interests of the nation before their own in everything they did as no individual could be greater than the nation.

He said leaders in particular, had to be exemplary by ensuring that disagreements on any subject did not mean they had to undo the good that the nation had so far achieved.

Similarly lauding government for its positive working relationship with them, Kgosi Puso said Ntlo ya Dikgosi had benefitted greatly from the continuous, fruitful and meaningful engagement, particularly with cabinet during their tenure.

Such engagement, he said, had contributed immensely to ongoing efforts to transform bogosi.

He thanked President Masisi for the gesture of goodwill he had extended to members of Ntlo ya Dikgosi by hosting a dinner in their honour. ends
