MVA Fund SCD share notes

The Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVA), in collaboration with the Department of Social and Community Development (S&CD), on June 26, held a social workers engagement seminar in Jwaneng.
Speaking at the workshop, chief social and community development officer for Jwaneng, Ms Milani Selwe, appreciated efforts to initiate a sharing platform because the two organisations shared clients and their policies were not too different.
She said such relations would also help eliminate any misunderstanding between the two entities.
Ms Selwe indicated that her department was ready to work hand in hand with the MVA and render assistance anytime there was need.
She also indicated that working with MVA was vital for the overall benefit of victims of accidents more so that the assistance by MVA was not permanent.
“MVA can only assist victims of accidents to a certain extent and after that they cannot assist anymore, even when the victim may need post-care. So it is only right that after the end of their assistance someone has to take over in assisting the victims and that is where we come in,” she said.
Ms Selwe said in this way, it was only right for S&CD to work hand in hand with MVA so that the former would know the history of victims that were passed into their care.
She said the department was hopeful that the relations would go a long way.
The MVA case manager for rehabilitation, Ms Rapelang Kgosintwa, indicated that the workshop was in line with their five-year strategy dubbed Kgogamasigo.
She said their belief as an organization was that good relations with stakeholders could help better meet the needs of clients as well as improve case management.
For her part, the MVA case manager for welfare, Ms Buyani Chidoda, said MVA had realised the need for their organisation to collaborate with S&CD since they had realised that people involved in accidents would ultimately need the department, especially in the post-accident care stage.
“Some of the clients we assist are children whose parents or providers have perished in accidents and we assist them financially. We have noted with concern that some relatives that this children remain in their care have a tendency of abusing the financial assistance meant for these kids, and because these kids stay out in the community at villages, we need someone like the S&CD to keep an eye on such cases,” she said.
