Puso calls for leadership integrity

25 Jun 2019

Ntlo ya Dikgosi chairperson and Batlokwa kgosikgolo Kgosi Puso has challenged leaders to uphold integrity, honesty and consistency in all that they do.

In his opening remarks of the Ntlo ya Dikgosi sitting on Monday, Kgosi Puso said while the rest of the nation needed to introspect and devise ways of getting Botswana back to the values it used to hold dear, leaders also should look within to ascertain if they conducted themselves in a way that depicted the honour that came with their respective roles and positions.

He said it was imperative for Batswana and their leaders to not soil the good name they had built over the years by being reckless in their engagement with each other, saying Batswana were known to have a deep sense of respect for each other, a trait that he said should be kept at all costs.

Kgosi Puso said it was disappointing that undesirable traits such as anger, hostility, bitterness, hatred and selfishness were beginning to take root in the society.

The chairperson thus implored Batswana to fight hard to reverse the status quo.

Further, he observed that increased debate on topical issues such as those of corruption, money laundering, human trafficking, the increase in crime, were also an indication that the nation needed to introspect.

He said there were also calls from some sectors of society for the review of the constitution, calls for independence of institutions, and the role of Bogosi amongst other things, which he said were also indications that a deep introspection was necessary.

Kgosi Puso, in addition, informed Dikgosi that as the nation would be going to the poll soon, it was vital that in undertaking the election process, every individual, in exercising their right, ensured that the country continued to enjoy the peace and tranquility it had become synonymous with.

Thanking all stakeholders who had supported Ntlo ya Dikgosi during the term that would be ending with the impending dissolution of Parliament, he particularly thanked dikgosi for having similarly discharged their duties with great diligence as a well as a high sense of commitment.

He indicated that one of the highlights of their term had been the transition in the presidency.

The current sitting of the house will feature 80 questions and 12 motions, and is expected to draw to a close on Friday. ENDS
