Employees wellness key to service delivery

24 Jun 2019

A medical Doctor from the North West Family Health Centre in Maun, Dr Elvis Gonzales, has commended the North West District departments for their commitment to health and wellness.

Dr Gonzalez was speaking at the annual Ngami Wellness Day in Maun Sports Complex in Maun on June 21.

He said employees’ wellness was key to service delivery and the success of organisations.

Dr Gonzalez observed that a healthy workforce was productive and led to reduced overall medical costs, which was an advantage for the government.

“The government of Botswana is currently spending a lot of money in the health sector to address non-communicable diseases that could have been prevented through physical activities such as wellness days,” he said.

Dr Gonzalez, therefore, urged other departments and companies to implement wellness plans as he observed that healthy employees had a positive outlook towards life and were customer-centric as compared to unwell employees.

He urged the attendants to make use of the services offered for free for health screening and testing provided on the day.

North West assistant district commissioner, Mr Ramogaupi Gaborekwe said the annual Wellness event helped individuals to improve their health and was beneficial to both individuals and organisations.

The inter departments competitions, he said, increased the employees’ loyalty to their departments and helped in identifying talents on various sporting codes.

Further, Mr Gaborekwe said the local authority appreciated the sacrifice from the different departments in service delivery although some had challenges that hampered their service. ENDS
