Spirituality bedrock for wellness- minister

Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe says with spirituality as the bedrock of wellness, it is vital for spiritual needs to be also taken care of in the course of taking care of physical health.

Mr Lelatisitswe, who is also Member of Parliament for Boteti East, said this at the Roman Catholic Church’s Corpus Christi parish’s wellness day on June 22.

He indicated that one’s physical well-being could never be complete without good spiritual health.

“Wellness is often understood in one sense as a state of healthy existence of the body, the mind and soul.

As Christians, most importantly, we recognise spiritual wellness as the root of a healthy lifestyle,” he noted.

He said it was through spiritual wellness that believers, through faith, accepted the healing power of God, adding that in order to achieve a state of wellness Christians also needed to continue to deepen their faith in God.

Mr Lelatisitswe implored Corpus Christi members to understand that their bodies were a temple of God, therefore taking care of their physically well-being was a godly undertaking.

He also urged them to seek God’s guidance and wisdom to make right choices in relation to their health and that of their loved ones, calling on them to be proactive about their lifestyle choices as they would always have a bearing on their state of health.

“Practising and maintaining a disciplined life includes making conscious decisions about our diet, exercise, healthy work habits, and restraint from alcohol abuse and habit-forming drugs amongst others,” he said.A member of the church, Mr Gerald Ditiro concurred that physical and spiritual health were inter-twined and thus important for a person’s general well-being.

He said it was for such reason that as the Corpus Christi parish, they held in high regard the need to keep both aspects of their health in good shape.

The event, which brought together the church’s members across age categories, included various sporting activities as well as health screening for various health conditions. ENDS
