Today marks the start of the three-day Toyota 1000km Desert Race (TDR) at Sam Sono Stadium in Selebi Phikwe.

The race, which is held in Selebi Phikwe for the first time, kicked off at 11am with a pre-qualifying race for motorbikes, quadbikes and the special vehicle class.

TDR 1000 Moto race will start  on June 22 at 7am whilst the first heat of the Toyota Kalahari 1000km desert race will follow at 8.15 am.

The race, which is held under the theme; Don’t spoil it, will be held in Selebi Phikwe for the next three years.

The race is sponsored by the South African Cross Country Series in conjunction with among others Botswana Tourism Organisation and Selebi Phikwe Economic Diversification Unit.

The TDR enthusiasts will also be treated to a music festival at Makhubu club in Selebi Phikwe on June 22. The race is expected to end on June 23^.Ends
