Minister Van Der Westhuizen attends forum

The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Frans Van Der Westhuizen, leaves for Zambia on June 24 for a three-day Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF) Southern African Regional Conference.
A press statement from the ministry states that it is expected that the forum will increase awareness on the role of local government and other stakeholders in effective Local Economic Development (LED).
It will also look at localisation of Agenda 2030, facilitate the sharing of cases and experiences on localising the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly the emerging lessons in promoting decentralization.
Other issues include gender equality and gender responsive local governance and service delivery among other initiatives as well as agreeing on realistic and practical plans of action to implement agreed positions.
Minister Van Der Westhuizen, who will be accompanied by permanent secretary in the ministry, Mr Boipolelo Khumomatlhare and other ministry officials, is expected home on June 27. ends
