Teachers key in economic transformation
19 Jun 2019
The Assistant Minister of Basic Education, Mr Thato Kwerepe, says teachers will come handy when the country’s moves towards a knowledge-based economy.
Speaking at the beginning of a Broadcasting Summit in Mogoditshane on June 18, Mr Kwerepe urged teachers to support President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi as he strives to transform the economy.
A knowledge-based economy, he said, could not be attained unless teachers produced globally competitive students.
Mr Kwerepe further said early childhood education was important and that talent identification should be done at grassroots level, to be developed and nurtured during the student years.
For his part, the Broadcasting Organisation Group director Mr Layani Elias said his organisation had partnered with the Ministry of Basic Education to improve and encourage learning in schools through broadcasting, information and communications technology (ICT).
He said they started with six schools in 2013 and that currently they were working with more than 300 primary schools across the country.
Furthermore, he said they adopted several schools in Good Hope. ends
